Building permission

SHILLONG: The KHADC has taken a strong exception to the attempt of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to encroach into the jurisdiction of the Council.
MUDA had recently passed an order making it mandatory to acquire prior permission from the authority (MUDA) for construction of a new building within the Shillong master plan.
The order also stated all the ongoing building constructions without the building permission from the MUDA are to be stopped and the owners are to apply for the same before MUDA,
“We strongly object to this order of MUDA,” Executive Member in-charge Trade Latiplang Kharkongor told newsmen here on Wednesday.
According to Kharkongor, this is clearly a blatant attempt on the part of MUDA to illegally encroach into the areas under the Council
While referring to the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act 1973, he said that it has been clearly specified that the provisions of this act shall extend to the whole of Meghalaya excluding the Autonomous Districts.
He said that the Council demand a clarification from the  MUDA on this issue even as threatening that the Council will not hesitate to file a case against MUDA for illegally encroaching into the areas of the Council if it failed to get a satisfactorily reply from it.
Meanwhile, Kharkongor said that Council will discuss this issue in the upcoming session and added that the Council is also preparing its own building Bye-laws.
