This was informed to the lone Rajya Sabha MP from Meghalaya, Wansuk Syiem in a letter from the Home Ministry.
Syiem had raised the matter on the floor of the House through special mention and wanted to know what the Government planned to prevent such occurrences and punish the guilty.
The Centre has asked all state Governments and Union Territories to set up help lines and special NE cells to deal with the cases of racial attacks, be it verbal or physical, the Ministry said in the communication. It is also taking steps on the recommendations of the Bezbaruah Committee, it said.
