Barkos inaugurates specialized adoption agency at Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri on Wednesday inaugurated a Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) and a baby cradle reception centre at Mawrusyiar, here.
The SAA and the reception centre will be managed by Life Light Focus Concern of Presbyterian Church, New Nongstoin District.
The Inaugural function was chaired by Tbn. B.S. Kharlor, President, LLFC.
In his address Warjri, appreciated the untiring efforts of the Life Light Focus Concern (LLFC) and said, “We should treat orphaned children with dignity and give them a chance to develop. We should also be cautious in dealing with them but at the same time we should seize every opportunity give them love and support whenever we can,” Warjri said.
Warjri also expressed concern over early marriages which lead to poverty, broken families and increase in the number of orphans and street children in the society.
Among others who spoke at the inaugural function included West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh, Tbn. Dr. P. Lyngkhoi, vice president of the LLFC, I.K. War, District Social Welfare Officer, I.S. Rapthap, Programme Manager, State Project Support Unit in charge of State Child Protection Society, ICPS, Shillong, and E.P. Syiem, Syiem of Hima Nongstoin.
