Bethany awarded license for blood storage centre

SHILLONG: Bethany Hospital Shillong has become the first private hospital in the State to be awarded a license to maintain a blood storage centre. The centre was inaugurated by KW Marbaniang, Secretary Health and Family Welfare on February 19.
An official statement in this regard said that the blood storage centre ensures availability of different components of blood on an ‘instant need’ basis. This centre is supported by the Regional Blood Bank, Pasteur Institute, Shillong.
During the function, Dr. JL Sailo Ryntathiang, Director of Bethany Hospital explained his efforts in trying to meet the needs of in-patients. He also expressed concern over meeting the need of those patients residing in rural areas and requested others to also take up the challenge.
Dr. WF Dkhar, the in charge of the blood storage centre, highlighted the need for voluntary blood donation.
“Blood storage centres should be set up in other hospitals to cater to the needs of people in and around Shillong,” he added.
A voluntary blood donation camp was conducted on the same day where the staff  of Bethany Hospital were the primary donors.
