SHILLONG: The KHNAM has opposed the move of the Postal department to close down the non-delivery sub post office at Jaiaw.
In a letter addressed to the Post Master General on Monday, KHNAM Jaiaw circle said that the office was established in 1972 and has served the public for over 42 years.  The KHNAM also pointed out that at present the sub post office has more than 2000 account holders (recurring/saving).
Stating that the population in the surrounding areas has increased manifold, the KHNAM said many schools, colleges, hospitals and offices directly or indirectly have business with the sub-office.
Closing down the sub office will be a great disadvantage to the residents of Jaiaw and surrounding localities as they have depended on the services of this office for many years, the KHNAM said.
The party suggested that instead of closing down the non-delivery sub office, it could be upgraded to a delivery sub office with better facilities.
