SHILLONG: The Office of The Registrar, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal, Delhi High Court, will hold its hearing for examination of witnesses on the matter relating to declaring Hynniewtrep National Libration Council (HNLC) as ‘unlawful association’ on March 7 and 8.
The hearing will be held at the Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam.
The Tribunal is likely to recommend extension of the ban on HNLC for another five years.
The meeting of the Tribunal in Shillong was scheduled after the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a notification on November 16, 2014 extending the ban on HNLC under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The Tribunal after hearing the SPs and DCs of the districts of Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi, besides Home department officials, will confirm the extension of the ban. Subsequently, the Union Home Ministry will issue a fresh notification on the duration of the period of ban.
The last meeting of the Tribunal to hear the matter related to the extension of the ban on HNLC was held in Shillong in March 2013.
