Accused still at large: CSWO

SHILLONG: In an irony of sorts, Sohra Police arrested the relative of a rape survivor instead of taking action against the alleged rapist.
According to reports, police arrested one Tipsngi Buhphang of Dingsyiar village who is a relative of the rape survivor.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing claimed that police arrested Buhphang based on a false FIR filed by Isrel Mawkon, mother of the alleged rapist Cas Mawkon.
Stating that police should have investigated thoroughly into the case before arresting the relative of the rape survivor, Kharshiing informed that the Mawkon had been accused of raping a minor mentally-challenged girl in October last year and a case had been registered against him.
Kharshiing further informed that police had not served any notice to Tipsngi under Sec 41 A of the CrPC but arrested him on Monday after calling him to the police station for a compromise on the rape case.
The CSWO will urge the Meghalaya State Commission for Women and the Special Committee for Protection of Child Rights to take up the case seriously, besides assisting the mother of the rape survivor in filing an FIR against the OC Sohra and the mother of the rape accused Cas Mawkon.
