Guwahati: In a bid to make Guwahati a slum-free city, the Assam government has initiated steps to build houses for the slum dwellers under the ‘Rajiv Awas Yojana’ in the city.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today chaired a review meeting here to speed up the implementation of the Rajiv Awas Yojana under Guwahati Municipal Corporation, said a government release.
At the meeting, the Chief Minister asked the concerned officials to take steps on a fast-track basis for building the dwelling houses for people in 164 slum areas identified in the city which would be encompassed under the scheme initially. Gogoi further asked the officials to make temporary dwelling arrangements for the beneficiaries during the construction period. Around 18,500 households in the city would be accommodated initially under the scheme which would be replicated subsequently, the release said. (PTI)
