Coal trucker dies while evading cops

SHILLONG: The driver of a coal-laden truck, who was trying to evade police, died on the spot after his truck dashed against a hillock.
The incident happened on Wednesday around 3 pm when Tremiki Lytan was illegally transporting coal in a truck (AS-01-BC-2742) and tried to evade a police checking at Mawryngkneng junction in East Khasi Hills and dashed against a hillock at Mawryngkneng Bypass Road.
In another case on Wednesday, police seized four coal-laden trucks – ML-04B-4554 driven by Waiton Pakma, ML-04A-4838 driven by Tiplang Jong, AS-01BC-8377 driven by Kolin Laloo and NL-05D-1169 driven by Rimiki Pakma – at Shillong Bypass, Umroi while they were transporting coal in violation of the NGT order.   The four drivers were also arrested.
Earlier on Tuesday, police detected one truck (AS-01-PC-1572) and arrested the driver Rolin L Mawnai who was illegally transporting coal at Mairang in West Khasi Hills. Again on the same day, police detected and seized three coal-laden trucks – AS-01BC-5886 driven by Bai Biam, AS-01AC-6455 driven by Demoni Shylla and AS-01BC-9977 driven by Md. Rabul Hussain – at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills while they were transporting coal in violation of the NGT order. The drivers were arrested.
In yet another case on Tuesday, police arrested one Ram Kumar Rai while he was illegally extracting coal from a quarry at Tinsynrum, Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills.
