Truckers told to strictly adhere to NGT orders

SHILLONG: The Commissioner of Transport has warned that all concerned should strictly comply with the orders of the National Green Tribunal while transporting extracted coal within and outside Meghalaya.
The Commissioner also informed that all coal-laden trucks should ensure that they pass through only the designated weighbridges as indentified by the National Green Tribunal and notified by the Meghalaya government.
Stating that all coal trucks should strictly restrict carriage of load up to 9 MT in pursuance of the order of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal, the official added that no overloading will be allowed while transporting coal.
According to the Commissioner, the owner of the concerned vehicle should be responsible and liable to penalty and action would be taken as per law in the event of overloading and resultant to traffic congestion.
