SHILLONG: The year-long 125th birth anniversary celebration of Dr BR Ambedkar was formally launched by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president DD Lapang at Congress Bhawan here on Thursday.
In his address, Lapang gave a brief biography of Dr. Ambedkar and spoke of his life, attainments and contributions to the society.
MPCC vice president, AH Scott Lyngdoh highlighted the policy of reservation drafted by Dr. Ambedkar and its contribution to the upliftment of the people of Meghalaya.
On the occasion, the youths and the women members of the party were urged to organize suitable programmes in the course of next one year.
Among others who paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar were Home Minister, Roshan Warjri and Congress’ Shillong city president, Charles Pyngrope.
Lapang also wished the people of Meghalaya, on the occasion of Bihu and the Bengalee and Assamese New Year and hoped that the festival would usher in a new dawn of peace, tranquility, and better understanding among all communities.
