Companies skip Skill Fest cum Job Fair at Nongpoh over HNLC-sponsored bandh

SHILLONG: Several companies of international and national repute failed to attend the Skill Fest cum Job Fair at Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh, in Ri-Bhoi District on Wednesday owing to the HNLC-sponsored 24-hour bandh call from Tuesday evening, effectively depriving scores of educated youth of the district from gaining an employment opportunity.
The Skill Fest cum Job Fair was organised by the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training department in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Around 30 companies were expected to attend the skill fest programme to select youths for jobs but at the end only 11 companies could attend the fair due to the bandh.
However despite all odds, around 450 youth were picked up by the companies having their base in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, including some from Meghalaya as well.
