SHILLONG: The employees of Komorra Limestone Company Limited staged a protest inside the company premises on Tuesday to demand the immediate release of their three-month pending salaries beside other benefits.
The employees came together under the banner of Komorra Employees and Limestone Quarry’s Workers Union (KELQWU) and staged a protest along with HYC leaders of Riwar Shella circle.
Later, Managing Director of the company, JR Myrboh gave a verbal assurance to the employees to release their pending salaries followed a two-hour long meeting. It may be noted that Komora Limestone Ltd Company located at Majai under Sohbar Elaka is a joint venture of Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Calcutta-based DCPL Company.
Recently the DCPL sold its 50 per cent share to another company giving rise to insecurity in the minds of the employees of the Komora Limestone Ltd regarding their pending dues.
Speaking to reporters, Union secretary, C Warjri said that the Company has started ignoring the employees and depriving them of their rights from the time the new MD took over thus violating the agreement signed between the Union and the management.
“The present MD has deducted our Provident Fund and even lied to the MIDC that he has made the payment of our dues,” Warjri alleged.
