SHILLONG: It is exactly one year since the devastating floods ravaged Garo Hills leading to huge loss of life and property in the region.
A year after the floods, which claimed over 60 lives, Garo Hills is slowly limping back to normalcy even as many challenges continue to hit the region.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said that the District Administration has cleared a pending bill of Rs 40 crore to the ration dealers who provided essential items to the affected people during the period.
He further said that initial restoration work has been done in the district based on the funds provided by the State Disaster Response Fund and National Disaster Response Fund.
East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner CVD Diengdoh, meanwhile, said that the District Administration has released all the funds for the affected people earlier this year. He also said that repair work of the “essential infrastructure in the district” has already been completed.
South West Garo Hills DC Ram Singh said that relief for damage to households, agriculture and horticulture has already been released.
