SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) women’s wing has slammed the State Government for not declaring a State holiday on Tuesday when veteran politician Hoping Stone Lyngdoh was laid to rest with full State honours at his native village, Mawkyllei in West Khasi Hills.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, president of HANM women’s wing, B. Jyrwa argued that while Mahatma Gandhi is considered the “Father of the Nation”, Hoping Stone Lyngdoh was no less than the “father of the State”.
The HANM also demanded that the Government should declare a State holiday on September 26 every year in memory of the State’s longest serving legislator.
The HANM also threatened to take “alternate course of action” if the Government failed to comply with its demand.
Lyngdoh breathed his last at NEIGRIHMS on September 26 and was laid to rest at Mawkyllei on September 29.
