NONGPOH: The Meghalaya Youth Exchange Programme organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), which was held at Bharat Scout and Guide State Headquarter in Shillong, concluded on September 8. The closing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Urban Affairs M. Ampareen Lyngdoh as the chief guest.
The eight-day programme which was held from September 1-8 saw a huge participation of youth representing all the districts of the state.
In her speech as the chief guest of the function, Lyngdoh firstly congratulated and lauded the DSYA for taking an important initiative in organizing such youth programme and for the untiring dedication in making the programme a successful one.
She further said that she had never seen such a colourful presentation of traditional costumes and dresses of the natives of Meghalaya performing in a single function.
Lyngdoh also said that the youth should come forward and work together for peace and prosperity to bring peace and tranquility in state.
Others present in the closing day were Principal Secretary of the DSYA, F.M Kharkongor, DSYA Director F.M Dopth, Deputy Director J.R Marak, Programme Coordinator Bobby Wahlang, Linda Lyndem and Phinda Lyndem along with the DSO from all 11 districts.
Later, prizes were handed over to winners in different events conducted during the one week programme which included elocution, in which Bymonmiralda Lato from West Jaintia Hills bagged the first prize and Carmell Baremdor Dohling from East Jaintia and Sandeep Siangshai bagged the second and third place respectively.
In the quiz competition the team from West Garo Hills bagged first place and East Khasi Hills and the West Jaintia Hills bagged second and third places.
In the folk dance competition, the winner was East Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills and South West Garo Hills were declared as first and second runners up respectively.
In the folk song competition, West Khasi Hills bagged first place, West Garo Hills second and South West Khasi Hills third.
Other events included talent hunt, Guitar and Flute competitions.
