Kharshiing reiterates demand for CBI probe into honest cop’s ‘murder’

SHILLONG: CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing has expressed shock over the SIT report that (late) P.J. Marbaniang committed suicide and raised questions over the SIT move to arrest five NGO members and a BDO for abetting the suicide.
“No one is a fool to believe that these five persons can persuade an honest Police Sub-Inspector to commit suicide,” Kharshiing said.
The organization pointed out several evidences in this regard “that the register in the CHC had clearly mentioned that the bullet injury was on the back of the head and that he was brought to the CHC on January 24 at 9:30 pm. Whereas, the doctor handing over the death certificate revealed that Marbaniang had expired at 8.50 pm on January 24.”
“When a person is injured, how is it that they left him for half an hour to bleed to death waiting to book a 108 Ambulance to take him to the Patharkhmah CHC which is just a stone’s throw away,” Kharshiing questioned.
“Through an RTI filed it was revealed that the SP and DSP were informed of the incident at 9 pm, but why the DSP (Crime) who was in the Outpost not escort the body of the slain Police officer to the CHC and to the GNRC?” Kharshiing argued.
She further added, “If Marbaniang had died at GNRC, why wasn’t the post mortem conducted at Guwahati and why was there no officer with him and why did the officer deputed left GNRC and did not ensure that the clothes should be preserved.”
She maintained that if he had shot himself from the forehead why was there no gunshot residue?
Further, she put forward the opinion that the police officer was shot from the back of his head. “It is now clear why the clothes were destroyed as they would contain gunshot residue in the back of the clothes as evidently he was shot from the back of his head. It is a well known general rule that gunshot wounds located anywhere else, if not in the side of the head, the mouth or the chest, are most likely homicide, yet the trained police officials of the State could not establish a murder and made it look like a suicide defaming their own just to protect a corrupt few.”
Kharshiing also stated that the medical report mentioned that the entry wound size on the back of the head is 1.5 cm approximately and exit wound on the forehead is 2 cm approximately.
Kharshiing has framed a series of questions thereby pointing fingers at the alleged suicide, “Why was the handwash not taken especially when the DSP (Crime) who is well trained, was around in the Outpost?
Why was the X-ray not done of the head as requested by the mother of the deceased?” she further questioned.
The CSWO chief demanded a CBI inquiry maintaining that it is a “clear case of murder of an honest police officer.”
Kharshiing also argued that the SIT would not arrest the main killer and the people who ordered the killing, and added that since the case has raised many eyebrows, it is doubtful if other investigations are ‘done with honesty’.
