SHILLONG: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sensational death of police sub-inspector P.J. Marbaniang has named several persons including the BDO of Jirang C&RD Block, who was arrested on Wednesday and several police personnel for facilitating illegal plying of coal-laden trucks via Mairang-Ranigodown Road – Sukurberia (RB) in violation of NGT order from December 2014 to March, 2015 by accepting bribe.
All these names were mentioned in a series of FIRs filed by Vivek Syiem, SP (City), who headed the SIT, on December 1, 2014. Interestingly, Marbaniang died on January 24, 2015.
According to the Meghalaya Police website, one such FIR lodged by Syiem said that Granvill Harley Passah, BDO, C&RD Block, Jirang, Bhaboklang Lakhmi , Inderjit Nongtri, Remdor Nongtri, Wonderland Nongtri , Appeal Diengdoh, Firstmoon Nongsiej, Hasjoy Wahlang, Convenor Rani, Mutkamsing Syngkli and Kodius Thongni facilitated transportation coal via the above mentioned road by accepting bribe during the month of December 2014 to March, 2015.
The BDO was arrested along with three members of FKJGP’s western zone on the charge of abetment of suicide.
In another FIR, Syiem brought to light involvement of several policemen in this illegal act. They are Kynsai Jones Nongkharai (SI), H/C Sangkakati K. Marak & constables — Robin Kalita, Dress Khymdeit, Kamal Ch. Borah, Pdianglad Shangpliang, Thagiram Sharma and Francis Khyndeit. All are from Patharkhmah outpost.
An FIR was filed against KHADC staff which stated that Kamphermay Kharsati, Ranger, KHADC Forest check Gate, Paham Range, Homestar Jamu, Assistant Ranger, KHADC Forest check Gate, Paham Range, Kleming Papang, Assistant Forester, KHADC Forest check Gate, Paham Range, Petalman Thangkhiew, Forest Guard, KHADC Forest check Gate, Paham Range and Andy Robert Basaiawmoit were involved in illegal collection of money from coal transporters.
One more complaint was lodged against Wingstar Swer, Forest Beat Officer, Nomos Nongphlang, Forest Guard, Sukurberia .
An FIR was also lodged against Government officials namely Dimmostar F. Kharshandi, Inspector of Taxes and I/c Taxation Check gate, Paham, Lumlang Passah, Gate Checker and Demar Lapang, Gate Checker.
A separate FIR was filed against the lessees of several check gates erected in the area.
