Security tightened for Durga puja in Tripura

Agartala: State police have put stringent security measures in place to maintain peace in Tripura as it immersed in felicity celebrating Durga Puja across 2,500 pandals.
“We have taken adequate measures to make the puja celebration peaceful. Besides normal policing, we have deployed around 1200 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans only in the capital city and its outskirts,” Inspector General, Police Control, Nepal Das today told PTI.
He said security was beefed up across the state and all big pandals would be brought under coverage of CCTV camera.
20 watch towers were built up in the capital city and 25 drop gates set up for checking of vehicles entering Agartala.
Besides, thousands of police assistance booths were set up throughout the state, IG Das said. Patrolling by para-military forces has already started in the hilly and remote areas while the Border Security Force (BSF) was alerted to augment itself along the 856-km-long India-Bangladesh border, especially where the barbed wire fencing was yet to be constructed.
Cadres of Civil Defence and NCC were also engaged in puja duties and strict vigil was being maintained on the Assam-Agartala national highway so that vehicle could ply even at midnight hassle-free.
Das said state police also held meetings in different phases with the executives of the puja committees in the state for peaceful puja festival. (PTI)
