NONGSTOIN: The HSPDP seems to be a divided house as far as selection of candidate for the Nongstoin by-election is concerned.
A group of party supporters, having a say in matters, have rallied behind Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait, and demanded the party ticket for her. Ironically, HSPDP leaders have already rejected her application on the argument that she was no longer associated with the party.
Addressing media persons on Tuesday, Trining Nongrem, an HSPDP supporter, said the party needed a person with the ability to run and lead the people of Nongstoin and there was no better candidate than Fenela L. Nonglait.
The HSPDP supporters argued that if any other person is given the ticket, the party would suffer a major split and definitely face defeat in the November 21 election. The supporters expressed hope that the HSPDP high command would respect the people’s choice and give the ticket to Nonglait.
The HSPDP supporters unanimously decided that if the party ticket is not allotted to Nonglait, they would hold another meeting to decide whom to support during the election.
Incidentally, Nonglait claimed that most of the voters of Nongstoin constituency need a better representative to lead Nongstoin and with this idea in mind she had approached L.G. Nongsiej to withdraw from the list of aspirants and not contest the by-election.
She appealed to the people of Nongstoin to raise their voice and stand with her on Thursday, the day when the party is supposed to announce the name of its candidate.
