Mawprem Housing project

SHILLONG: The Urban Affairs department is targeting to inaugurate the low-cost housing units at Mawprem before Christmas.
Informing this here on Friday Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the project is making good progress.
She also informed that the department would now install other facilities such as independent meter boxes and water meters in the housing units.
“We hope that PHE and MeECL would put up such basic necessities within the stipulated time,” she said.
Reacting to a query about the selection of beneficiaries for the project, the Minister said that the same would be left to the wisdom of the community and the local MLA.
“We want to replicate the system of Nongmynsong Housing unit where residence committees have been formed,” she added.
The housing project at Lower Mawprem will have 48 dwelling units spread over an area of in 9,900 square feet with necessary infrastructure and the project was taken up under integrated slum development project for urban poor at an initial estimated cost of Rs 1.77 crore.
