SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) has demanded both the magisterial enquiry reports into the Mookhep firing incident to be made public without any further delay.
NPP spokesperson James Sangma on Thursday said the fact that so much delay has already taken place was indicative of a move to cover up the entire episode.
The NPP also questioned the validity of the reasons for not making the first magisterial inquiry report public.
“The reason ‘more questions than answers’ for not accepting the first report is flimsy and not justified,” Sangma said, while stating that the first inquiry report prepared by S.S. Syiemlieh should have be tabled in the Meghalaya Assembly but the Congress government chose      not to do so.
Instead the government went ahead and constituted another probe to enquire into the unfortunate incident in order to further delay the entire process, he said.
“It is indeed sad that Mukul Sangma, the absentee Chief Minister of Meghalaya, chooses to spend more time outside Meghalaya rather than ensuring speedy conclusion to the inquiry of such an unfortunate incident. The NPP condemns the callous and indifferent attitude of the present Congress government towards the people of Jaintia Hills,” he added.
