SHILLONG: The deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of border districts of the state will discuss the issue of militancy, cross-border terrorism and smuggling among others at Mymensingh during the three-day border meeting scheduled with Bangladeshi counterparts from December 1.
An official source said on Friday that the meeting assumes significance in the context of cross border movement of militants and smugglers who create terror among the border residents and also among other people.
Earlier, the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had expressed concern over the availability of weapons smuggled from across the border with the petty criminals and militants which result in the spurt in the number of cases of kidnappings.
Over 90 cases of kidnapping cases were reported in the state till date.
Besides, during the meeting in Bangladesh, the Meghalaya delegation will also apprise their counterparts regarding the need to control influx from across the border.
Earlier last week, the BSF delegation from different Northeast frontiers had a meeting with the BGB delegation at Syhlet and discussed the issues like cross border smuggling, the need to bust the hide outs of GNLA and HNLC in Bangladesh, and cattle smuggling among others.
