Gogoi wants ULFA(I) camps uprooted from Myanmar

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday reiterated his call to the Union government to facilitate annihilation of camps of ULFA (Independent) and NSCN-K in Myanmar in the wake of a fresh incident of attack on two Hindi-speaking persons by suspected (ULFA(I) militants at Namrup in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
An official source here said, an alarmed chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday called up the GOC 3 Corps of Indian Army with request to intensify operation against insurgents in eastern Assam areas. He also instructed the State Chief Secretary V K Pipersania and DGP, Mukesh Sahay to work out a strategy to protect all sections of people in the state.
Two persons were injured when suspected ULFA (I) militants opened fire in a stone crushing quarry at Namrup in eastern Assam last evening. Police said two motorcycle-borne youths opened fire at the quarry, located along Dibrugarh-Sivasagar districts border.
The injured were identified as Sanjay Bharati and Gopal Shah. They were taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital at Dibrugarh. Though militant group claimed responsibility yet for the attack, the needle suspicion is pointed towards the ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) which are active in the area no far from inter-state boundary with Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Sahay stated that the though the insurgency in the state was on the wane, it had the potential to get re-ignited at anytime and thud left no scope for the state police force and security forces to get complacent.
