SHILLONG: The CSWO has alleged that MIMHANS had refused admission to mental patients.
According to CSWO, on December 17 evening a mentally ill woman was picked up from Police Bazaar and when police took her to be medically examined at MIMHANS, the staff refused to accept her on the grounds that there was no doctor available. The lady was taken to MIMHANS by a 108 Ambulance.
Since she was not admitted at MIMHANS, police had to depute a policewoman to take care of the lady.
The CSWO alleged that it has learnt through sources that this was not the first instance when the staff at MIMHANS had refused to admit or provide instant medical help to patients when they are taken by the police in the evening.  This in turn puts the police in a dilemma, as they have to search for shelter elsewhere and police personnel have to be deployed with the patient round the clock, which is not their duty as they are not trained for this type of work. “This is a clear disregard by the people manning MIMHANS and is violation of human rights. Hence the government should pass strong strictures so that the Hospital staff can provide immediate attention 24×7 to the patients,” CSWO added.
