TURA: P4 Unit, Muga Silkworm Seed Organization and Central Silk Board, Tura organized a Muga Krishi Bigyan Mela and Awareness Programme under Seed Act for two consecutive days at Multi Facility Hall in Asanang under Rongram Block, recently in which over 350 Muga farmers participated.
The chief guest, Dr Milton S Sangma, Pro Vice Chancellor (Retd), NEHU, speaking on the occasion gave an elaborate account of cultural heritage of muga culture in Assam as well as in Garo Hills.
“Muga culture has been the livelihood of a large number of rural populations in Assam and Garo Hills,” he said.
Sangma advised the Central Silk Board to take steps such as publication of Muga News Letter for popularizing muga culture in Garo Hills. He also emphasized that a Muga Silk Emporium should be opened at Tura Super Market which will give great impetus among the people of Garo Hills.
Earlier, an exhibition was held in which various scientific technologies in the field of Muga culture and different muga products were showcased.
District Sericulture Officer (Retd), Bimal Hajong, Scientist-D & Head, MSSO, CSB, Guwahati, B K Singh, Scientist-D, MSSO, CSB, Guwahati, Reena Choudhury, Scientist-D, MSSO, CSB, Tura, S A S Rahman, Scientist-C, MSSO, CSB, Guwahati, Bitopan Das, Disdrict Sericulture Officer, Williamnagar, Smt S G Momin, Sericulture Officer Tikrikilla, B P Hajong were among others who participated during the two programmes.
