SHILLONG: Around 86 students who had appeared the Sixth Semester exam of the three-year LL.B. course were left fuming when the results were declared by the NEHU Examination department on Tuesday as only three out of 89 candidates were declared to have passed in the second division out of whom two students belong to Shillong Law College.
Dr. L. Cajee, Controller of Examination, NEHU, said, “The reason for the low pass percentage is that some of the students have not cleared any of the back papers from the previous semesters.”
“In this connection nothing can be done but if the students are confident enough that they have done well then they can put in a representation or if they feel the papers are under-marked they can go for re-evaluation,” he added.
The aggrieved students alleged that it is the first time ever since the semester system of examination was introduced that the pass percentage of LL.B final semester has        gone down to 3.37%. Though there are several students who have cleared their fifth semester securing more than the aggregate 50% which is the minimum required percentage to clear each semester, yet they could not make a breakthrough in their sixth and final semester.
The aggrieved students have taken up the matter with the Principal of Shillong Law College who assured them that he will take up the matter with the Controller of Examinations, NEHU.
