Govt slams cops over highway parking menace

SHILLONG: The State Government has slammed the officers in charge posted along the state and national highways for the growing menace of illegal parking which often led to traffic jams and accidents.
Chief Secretary PBO Warjri held a meeting last month on the issue of illegal parking of vehicles along the state and the national highways.
The state government slammed the officers in charge posted on highways stating that the growing number of accidents and inconvenience caused to drivers showed the lack of initiative by the OCs and ICs posted on the highways.
All the SPs have been directed to detail police teams to detect cases of illegal parking and book cases under appropriate section of law including imposition of fine under MV Act.  SPs have also been asked to communicate action taken report to the police headquarter once in a fortnight.
