SHILLONG: The tussle for supremacy and rivalry in politics has delayed the appointment of nominated MDCs in both KHADC and GHADC.
While the name of Conrad Sangma as the nominated member of GHADC is still pending with the state government for clearance for almost two months due to political reasons, the state government has put hurdles for the clearance of the name of retired KHADC Judge J. Reenbohn as nominated member to KHADC.
After KHADC on December 14 recommended the name of Reenbohn to the Governor for his nod, the state government has recommended the name of former MDC Irene Lyngdoh to the post.
Irene’s name got the government’s seal of approval due to the ongoing tussle between the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and the KHADC CEM PN Syiem over the dual-post issue.
Sources said that as far as Conrad Sangma is concerned, once he is a nominated member, he will become the Chief Executive Member of GHADC as per the earlier decision of Garo Hills Progressive Alliance led by NPP.
Since NPP is the principal rival to the Congress in Garo Hills, the latter considers the elevation of Conrad as the CEM of GHADC will be a threat to the party in Garo Hills. Hence, the Congress-led MUA-II wanted to delay the process, sources added.
Regarding the pending appointment of Reenbohn to KHADC, sources said that the fight is within the Congress since the Chief Minister does not want to see KHADC chief getting upper hand, and hence the government was asked to recommend the name of Irene Lyngdoh to the vacant post.
The Governor will have a tough time as far as giving final nod to the nominations.
