SHILLONG: The 6.7 magnitude earthquake which hit Manipur and other North Eastern states including Meghalaya made rumour mongers jump into action yet again.
Besides passing of ‘misinformation’ through word of mouth, the rumour mongers have also taken to social networking sites and apps “predicting another earthquake in Shillong and the North East soon.”
On Tuesday, some anxious people called up this scribe to inquire if another earthquake was about to hit Shillong in the hours to come.
Interestingly, after the high intensity earthquake, no appeal was issued by the State or the Central Governments urging people not to believe in such rumours.
Rumours have always followed earthquakes and even though the majority takes the false stories casually, yet they create a fear in the minds of many.
