Pak to participate in SAG: Sonowal

GUWAHATI: Putting to rest speculations on whether the Pakistan contingent will participate in next months South Asian Games (SAG), Sports Minister Sarabanada Sonowal said here that the neighbouring country has conformed participation.
Interacting with mediapersons on preparations for the SAG here last evening, Sonowal said a contingent of over 400 members from Pakistan will be participating.
The Chef de Mission of the Pakistan contingent, along with those of the other seven participating nations, are currently in Guwahati to supervise the preparations, he added.
The Union minister further said for the first time, men and women will be participating in all 23 events of the Games, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 5 here.
Assam and Meghalaya are co-hosting the Games, which will conclude on February 16.
Sonowal also appreciated the help and cooperation being extended by the host states as well as other government agencies.
Over 4000 participants are expected to arrive for the mega sporting event, the first international sports meet of such magnitude being held in North East. (UNI)
