SHILLONG: In light of the recent ruling of the Meghalaya High Court on the functioning of traditional institutions in the State, the Executive Committee of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) has decided to meet the chief executive members of the three Autonomous District Councils.
An emergency meeting was held on Thursday to discuss the matter among others.
“The Executive Committee is aggrieved by the ruling of the Meghalaya High Court in relation to the functioning of traditional institutions in the State. It has been noted that no cognizance was taken of the constitutional provisions and the sixth schedule to the constitution of India,” a statement issued by SNSBH said.
The meeting also expressed its disappointment over the recent Cabinet decision to amend the “conduct rules of Government servants holding posts in the traditional Institutions”.
“Such arbitrary action on the part of the Government violates the fundamental rights of Government servants. The committee has decided to meet the Chief Minister on this matter,” the SNSBH said.
The SNSBH also rued the alleged uncaring attitude of the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues in addressing matters relating to protection of customary rights of the people.
The SNSBH will hold a general meeting soon to discuss the issues.
