Meet convened to iron out MHIS discrepancies

SHILLONG: Health Minister A.L. Hek has convened a meeting on January 19 to streamline the anomalies in the implementation and execution of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Hek said that some prominent hospitals in city had complained that they had not received the reimbursements from the insurance company to carry on with the scheme.
As many as three lakh people in the State are availing the scheme and complaints have been pouring in thick and fast both from the hospitals and beneficiaries regarding the implementation of the scheme.
Hek said that the shortcomings in the implementation of the scheme will be discussed in the meeting.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued here on Friday, the New India Assurance Co. Ltd. clarified that the insurance company has so far paid Rs.8.11 crore to hospitals empanelled under the scheme since the inception of the policy with effect from August 1 last year.
“There has been no announcement at any point of time that the insurance company will stop payment of claims to hospitals,” the statement added.
