Nonpayment of six months’ pending salary

TURA: The employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) are all set to stage a pen down strike from January 27-29 in protest against the failure of the authorities to respond to their demand for release of their six months’ pending salary.
The employees had staged a three day silent protest from Wednesday donning black badges to work with the hope of getting some kind of assurance from the authorities.
With the silent protest coming to a close on Friday and no positive response being given the employees decided to go ahead with the pen down strike.
“During the strike, all the employees are to attend office. However, we will not do any work during the duration of the strike,” the leaders of the council’s Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) informed.
The employees under the banner of the NGEA would also submit a writ petition in the High Court of Meghalaya provided their demands remain ignored following the three day strike.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, GHADC Deputy CEM, Augustine R Marak, on Friday said the Council was trying its best to pay the employees’ salaries from whatever revenue it can generate.
He said that revenue was being received regularly from the Transport department which could soon be used to pay the salaries and urged the employees to wait.
