Slams Assam’s ‘encroachment plans’

NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday held a public meeting at Langpih in West Khasi Hills to reiterate its opposition against Assam’s alleged land-grabbing tactics in the area.
KSU leaders from various West Khasi Hills units of the union along with local MLAs of Rambrai Jyrngam, K.P Pangniang, and Nongstoin, D.S Jyndiang attended the meet.  Sirdar of Hima Raid Mynsaw, Hindro Samakha was also present.
The public meeting, besides slamming Assam’s “encroachment plans”, also opposed the neighbouring state’s ‘intention’ to set up a military camp at Langpih. The gathering also expressed concern over the growing number of “foreign settlers” in the area. The pressure group leaders along with the local representatives also stood in unison in demanding that the State Government takes immediate steps to resolve the boundary issue with Assam.
Pangniang, meanwhile, said that instead of erecting police outposts at Langpih, Assam should swell police presence in areas frequented by militants.
