JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has for years turned a blind eye against illegal aggregates and stone mining in a portion of its land by residents of Mynso village.
For years now, the local residents have been engaging themselves in illegal mining activities destroying the forest land at a place called Shamor along the stretch of the Mynso-Samatan Road near Myntang Bridge.
Interestingly, the JHADC is losing valuable revenue by remaining silent on the illegal mining activities.
Confirming the same, the JHADC Chief Forest Officer admitted that local people from Mynso and other nearby villages are engaged in the mining illegally without any permission obtained from the Forest department of the JHADC.
Besides destroying the forest, stone mining in the area has also badly affected the river Myntang which beside along the stone quarries.
