SHILLONG: With Shillong continuing to bear the brunt of never ending traffic jams on its narrow roads and the added pressure of managing smooth traffic flow in the city in view of the ongoing South Asian Games, Shillong Traffic police has deploying additional men on the roads to ensure that the roads remain congestion free.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, Additional SP (Traffic), East Khasi Hills, Sacheng R Marak said over 270 traffic personnel have been deployed in the city in addition to around 80 NCC personnel who are assisting cops in managing the traffic.
Marak informed that SPTS buses were not being allowed to take a turn at the Motphran Junction since it leads to huge traffic jams and now the buses have to proceed towards Lumdiengjri and further.
However, maxi taxis and local taxis are allowed to turn from the Motphran Junction.
In addition, the taxi stands at Motphran and Iew Mawlong have also been removed. Besides, the no entry restriction on the bridge near Polo has also been removed and now people coming from Lawmali can proceed straight to Polo.
Meanwhile, in view of scheduled opening of all schools after the winter vacations, the one way from Dhankheti – Don Bosco – Laitumkhrah Police Point – Fire Brigade between 7:30 AM and 9 AM will be re-imposed from February 17.
