SHILLONG: The State BJP said that DoNER ministry has refused to sanction new projects for the state government since it has not produced utilization certificates for the projects which were already sanctioned.
A BJP delegation led by State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh met the Union  DoNER Minister in Delhi last month.
The Union Minister informed the delegation that Meghalaya had returned Rs 144 crore to DoNER which was not utilized by the state government.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, BJP national council member, Edmund K Sangma said that the Union Minister had told the state BJP delegation that DoNER ministry will not sanction new projects to Meghalaya pending the submission of utilization certificates of projects which were already  sanctioned.
According to DoNER ministry, Meghalaya seems to be interested in availing only the first installment of 40 per cent of projects following which, the schemes approved by the Ministry are not followed up by the state, Sangma said.
According to State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh, the state government failed to claim the remaining 60 per cent for the completion of the projects
Sangma said that that many projects which were sanctioned by DoNER were not implemented in the state as the state government failed to provide utilization certificates.
However, Sangma did not name the projects.
