SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has decided to adopt an aggressive strategy for the upcoming by-polls for seven seats of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Admitting that the party was not aggressive in its ways all this while, UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh said, “The party has now actively started its campaign for the elections.”
“We are in the process of activating our party functionaries and mobilizing grassroots support,” he added.
Stating that the party is trying to connect with the people, he said that the UDP will contest all the seven seats which were rendered vacant following the resignation of seven MDCs.
According to Mawthoh, the party would look to capitalise on the unforeseen events in the State like the issue of Village Administration Bill and poor governance.
He added that if the party can do well in the KHADC elections, it would imply bright prospects for the 2018 Assembly elections as well.
The UDP has already started the process of identifying potential candidates.
The elections to seven seats of KHADC have been necessitated following the passage of the Dual Post bill which resulted in the quitting of seven members of the Council.
