SHILLONG: Opposition UDP has criticised District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh for resigning from the post of MDC without consulting his electorate.
The matter was  raised during a meeting of the UDP held at Sohiong, the constituency Lyngdoh represents in the State Assembly.
The public  meeting held  at Iew Krang, Sohiong  was  attended by the general secretary of the party,  Allantry Franklin Dkhar,  along with UDP leaders R A Lyngdoh,  Braston Kharphuli,  Wankupar Syiemlieh,  Fedrick Lyngkhoi and  Balom Mawlong.
UDP leader  Syiemlieh said that if an MDC, who is also the District Council Affairs Minister (HDR Lyngdoh), resigns  without seeking the consent of the voters, it is for those who gave him the mandate to question his  action.
Braston Kharphuli, General Secretary of UDP- Sohiong Circle in a statement issued to the media on Monday said that the meeting was of the opinion that Congress, which no longer enjoys power at the centre, will still make a last ditch attempt to continue to be in power in 2018 and win by-election to KHADC.
Earlier, the Chairman of Nongsynshar Shnong Krang Area welcomed the gathering, and the meeting was  chaired by  Balom Mawlong, Working President of Sohiong Circle.
The meeting dwelled upon on the futility of the actions of the government in the recent past regarding the issues concerning empowerment  of headmen  which led to precious time being wasted and causing much inconvenience to the society as a whole because of the lack of knowledge and sensitivity of the government. However, the UDP said that the Supreme Court order has exposed this.
Lamenting on the hardships faced by the farmers, the  General Secretary of UDP Allantry Franklin Dkhar highlighted the fact that it was the E K Mawlong led government that first attempted to focus seriously on this matter.
He also said that it was during the Donkupar Roy led government that an attempt was made to ensure MLA schemes are put to use yearly.
The speakers appealed to the people to not fall prey anymore to the appeasement  policy of the Congress in state if they are concerned over the welfare and future of the coming generations.
