SHILLONG: Relatives of the driver who drove the tourist vehicle which bumped into the official vehicle of the Chief Minister on February 11 said on Sunday that the cases against him should be withdrawn.
It may be noted that as per the conditions set by the magistrate, Jeslakur Mawdoh, a native of Mawkynrang, near Mawnai Mairang, should appear before the court on each and every date fixed.
The condition stated, “The accused shall not abscond and leave the jurisdiction of the court without prior permission or intimation.”
Moreover, another condition is that Mawdoh should not hamper the investigation or tamper with the evidence of the case. Earlier, criticism had poured in as instead of booking the driver under sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, police had slapped Section 307 IPC on him which is attempt to murder. Though the police dropped the attempt to murder charge, he was charge sheeted under IPC sections of 279 (rash and negligent driving), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees and above).
However, the relatives now want these additional sections to be withdrawn.
On the other hand, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Western region and Mairang sub-division, have called for the withdrawal of the conditions.
The organization said that the poor family is currently undergoing financial constraints and have urged the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter.
