SHILLONG: In a fresh attack on Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for his comments that the Congress toppled the regional party led MPA government for its incompetence, the Opposition NPP on Monday wanted to know whether Sangma toppled his own Congress Government  led by DD Lapang in 2010 for the latter’s incompetence.
“If the Chief Minister is speaking about incompetence as the reason for the removal of the government, then we have to conclude that it was due to the incompetence of Lapang that he was removed by Sangma in 2010,” said NPP  president W. Kharlukhi on Thursday during a press conference.
The NPP legislator James Sangma  and his brother Conrad Sangma, finance Minister in Donkupar Roy-led MPA government, have also echoed the same.
According to Conrad, it was sad that political games resulted in the removal of MPA.
He said during the tenure of MPA led by UDP-NCP combine, the State Planning Board was a vibrant body and the then government had launched various initiatives though the tenure was short lived as MPA lasted only one year.
Regarding the de-sanctioning of schemes under PWD by MPA, Conrad said that the previous Congress government had sanctioned Rs 700 crore worth projects, though the budget for the schemes was only Rs 100 crore.
On the de-sanctioning of power projects, Conrad said that since certain guidelines were not followed MPA had to de-sanction several power projects signed with private power companies  by the Congress government.
