USTM/RIST held rally to celebrate International Women’s Day

GUWAHATI: Under the aegis of Women’s Cell of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), RIST and  ERDF , a rally was organized to create mass awareness to achieve the International Women’s Day theme ‘Planet 50-50- Stepping up for Gender parity’ at Last Gate, Guwahati on March 8. The rally was flagged off by eminent actress Nishita Goswami. Author & TV personality Maini Mahanta and Damayanti Devi, a noted member of Kasturba Ashram, administrative officials, faculty members and a large number of students among others participated in the rally.All the speakers focused on the importance of the International Women’s Day  and the need of women to build capacity and confidence. Students held placards displaying the need for gender equity and protesting the atrocities against the womenfolk. The afternoon programme was reserved for ‘Celebration of Sisterhood’. Department of English, USTM staged a street play, highlighting the need to work together for a better society, followed by games where all the female staff members of ERDF family across the ranks participated and enjoyed followed by a lunch hosted by the Chairman of  ERDF.
