SHILLONG: The Opposition has demanded withdrawal of 20% cut on non-plan expenditure imposed on the Home department to help purchase vehicles for law and order duty.
All the State government departments are adhering to the 20% cut on non-plan expenditure as a means to arrest the financial crunch.
Raising a question in the Assembly on police personnel using private taxis for operations against militants, Saleng Sangma (Independent) said the Home department should take steps to purchase more vehicles.
In reply, Home Minister Roshan Warjri said her department has asked the Finance department for exemption of the austerity cut so that more vehicles can be purchased.
