58 GTC ‘gate’ issue

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has said that he will address the grievances of the residents of Mawshbuit after they apprise him of the issue.
The statement came on contacting P.S. Dkhar, DC EKH with regard to action taken by the District Administration on the issue of stand-off between residents of Mawshbuit and the army personnel after entry to the village through 58 Gorkha Training Center (GTC) gate was restricted.
Dkhar said, “The villagers have not approached me till date and after hearing from them, I will take necessary action.”
A public meeting was held on Saturday where the residents called for the removal of 58 GTC gate as it is the only route to the village and also connects other parts of Shillong.
The villagers stated that with the removal of the gate, it will ease the entry of outsiders who visit the village from harassment by the army personnel.
It may be reminded that a clash erupted between the army andpersonnel and the villagers after the 58 GTC ‘Dronacharya Gate’ was closed by the army. Moreover, the army has come out with procedures while passing in and out of the gate.
The army authorities clarified that the security of defence establishments has been enhanced following the attack at the Pathankot airbase on January 2.
