NONGSTOIN: Hundreds of Senglongkmie members along with associations like HYC, KSU, WYF and headmen of four villages forcibly closed down four liquor shops in Pyndenglawar near Nongstoin on Saturday.
The decision to close down the wine shops at Pyndenglawar came after the NGOs and headmen had given a deadline to shut them down from March 31 but the owners of the wine shop opposed the ultimatum and continued to operate the shops.
However, the arrival of the NGOs and Senglongkmie led to immediate closure of the wine shops.
The NGOs and the headmen of four villages also conducted a meeting on the same day at Pyndenglawar Community hall where every NGO leader and headmen favoured the decision to abandon all the wine shops existing in Pyndenglawar as well as the adjoining areas. M.Tympuin, adviser of Synjuk ki Nongsynshanr Shnong told media after the meeting that wine shops will not be allowed to operate in areas like Nongritong, Pyndenglawar, Mawrok Porsohsat and Photjaud since the NOCs of these wine shops were invalid and the Sordar had not renewed or reissued the same.
“Since the wine store owners had not responded to our demands, the meeting has decided to launch a massive protest at Pyndenglawar on April 6 and a Black flag day in Nongstoin.
