SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM) will convene a general meeting on May 7 to discuss the issues related to provincialisation of educational institutions among others.
A meeting of JACATAM was held on Saturday to discuss the pending grievances of the teachers.
The demands of JACATAM include provincialization of teachers’ services, education policy, strengthening of MBOSE, payment of salary and other benefits to the teachers.  JACATAM chairman ED Nong-siang suggested the need to adopt the model being practiced in Tamil Nadu, for provincialisation of teachers’ services.
According to Nong-siang, in Tamil Nadu while the government takes care of the salary and services of the teachers,  school is run by both the state government and the school managing committee.
