Ban on exit poll

TURA:  The exit poll of the by-election to the Tura Lok Sabha constituency has been prohibited between 7 AM and 6:30 PM on May 16.
The West Garo Hills District Election Officer and Returning Officer, has informed that as per the notification dated April 28 issued by the Election Commissioner of India, conduct of any exit poll and publishing or publicizing by means of the print or electronic media or dissemination in any other names whatsoever, the result of any exit poll in connection with the bye-election to Tura parliamentary constituency is prohibited     between 7 AM and 6:30 PM on the polling day.
It was further clarified that under Section 126 (i)(b) of the R.P. Act 1951, displaying any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media would be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of poll.
