GUWAHATI: The banner organization of prominent Naga civil society groups, the Naga Ho Ho and Assam’s apex literary body, Assam Sahitya Sabha, in a bid to strengthen friendship and fraternity between Nagas and Assamese people joined hands at Kohima on Friday at the historic second round of Assam-Naga round table talk which was attended by All Assam Students Union (AASU) and all top civil society organisations of Nagaland.
This is the first time that any such civil society delegation from Assam seeking peace and fraternity between the two warring states has visited Kohima.
Initiated by the Nanda Talukdar Foundation (NTF) at Guwahati last year, the second round table discussion on Friday saw the elders of the Naga Society, Naga Mothers Association, Naga Students Federation as well as various Ho Hos of Naga tribes besides the Sahitya Sabha and AASU coming together on one platform.
The Assam team was led by Assam Sahitya Sabha President Dr. Dhruva J Bora, while it consist of AASU Adviser Dr. Samujjal Kr Bhattacharya, Academician Dr Udayan Mishra, Dr Ramesh Barpatragohain , Dean Faculty of Law, GU, Sahitya Sabha general secretary, Dr Paramananada Rajbongshi and Editor of Assamese Daily Amar Asom, Prashanta Rajguru. The second round of talks saw speakers after speaker emphasizing on the strengthening of fraternity through dialogue and forgiveness.
Speaking on the occasion, both Sahitya Sabha President, Dr Dhruva Jyoti Bora and Naga Hoho President, P Chuba Ozukum called for both the societies in Assam and Nagaland to come out of decades long stalemate so that the civil society can move along despite the persisting differences between the two state governments regarding the vexed boundary tangle.
