SHILLONG: The Hima Mylliem, which of late has been plagued with a series of controversies, is now staring at a fresh disceptation that some Myntris of the Hima are deacons of the Christian Church yet discharge their duties and obligations by partaking in the traditional religious ceremonies of the Khasis.
HNPM president, Tony Marbaniang, addressed the press conference in his individual capacity on Monday wherein he questioned the role of Myntri Jamphrang Nongkhlaw and Myntri Chester Kharkongor.
He alleged that the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ricky Nelson Syiem and his coterie had manipulated the people by resorting to illegal tactics.
“Syiem has bribed the Myntris and threatened others who have not sided with him,” Marbaniang alleged, wich drawing the attention of the High Court of Meghalaya asking it to examine the matter.
“We have evidences against him (acting Syiem) and Bahun Mylliemngap, a businessman and other Myntris with regard to their illegal activity,” he said, while condemning the KHADC for flouting the rules related to the Hima Mylliem.
Action sought against tainted Myntris
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) met the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem on Monday and asked him to dismiss the Myntris involved in the secret land deal at Mawpat (Law Syiem).
“There was no maintenance of    cash records and this showed corrupt practices of the Myntris involved which included Myntri Langstieh, Myntri Kharbuki and Myntri Kharlukhi,” Robert Kharjahrin, general secretary of HYC, said later.
The acting Syiem assured them that an inquiry on the matter was being conducted and stringent measures will be taken if any Myntri is found guilty.
On the issue of Paltan Bazar and Punjabi Lane, the HYC asked the Hima Mylliem to issue a notification directing the people residing there that those areas were non-residential areas and fell under the jurisdiction of the Hima.
Kharjahrin said that the Hima should discontinue the practice to issue trading licenses and NOCs to outsiders by notifying an order to all the headmen directing them not to issue NOCs without the knowledge of the Dorbar.
